Get busy, plant out chillies and capsicums for a summer harvest. They are packed full of vitamin C.
If you are short on garden space, chillies and capsicums can even be grown in a pot. If growing in a pot, please do justice by the plant and use a premium quality potting mix.

Amigo Chillies
Diablo Chilli
- Medium hot flavour.
- Long shaped chilli fruit.
- Fruit colouring is green turning glossy, deep red.
- Use fresh in cooked in condiments, salsa, soups, and cooked dishes.
Inferno Chilli
- Extremely hot flavour.
- A short tapered, red hot chilli.
- Fruit colouring is green turning red.
- It is perfect for adding a hot spicy taste to Mexican and other cuisine.
Jalapeno Chilli
- Mild flavour.
- Short, cylindrical, juicy Mexican chilli , 50-75mm long.
- The chillies are produced freely, maturing in 9-11 weeks.
- Colouring is dark green turning red.
- It is ideal for using fresh or cooked in condiments, salsa, soups, meat and vegetable dishes, appetizers and desserts. Jalapeno is one of the preferred chillies for Mexican cooking.
Serrano Chilli
- A warm rating when green and hot when red.
- Small, finger-shaped Mexican chilli 50-75mm long. Foliage is lacy
- An abundant cropper.
- Used for sauces, guacamole, relishes, vegetable dishes, seasoning and garnishes.
Asian Chillies
Caysan Chilli
- Rating of moderately hot.
- Smooth, straight, tapered fruit approximately 125-150mm in length. Fruit is dark green turning bright red as it ripens.
- Vigorous and bears prolific yields.
- Used widely in Indo-Chinese cooking including hot pepper sauces, Cajun-Creole dishes, Indian, Indonesian, Thai, Pakistan and Hunan dishes.
Can also be dried and powdered as a spice.
Siam Chilli
- Hot rating.
- Long, thin fruit, which taper to a point.
- Fruit colour is green turning to bright golden yellow.
- Used in Indo-Chinese cooking, ideal for adding colour to dishes.
Euro Chillies
Yellow Hot Wax Chilli
- A medium hot flavour.
- Commonly known as Banana Chilli, Hungarian in origin.
- Long tapering, smooth, waxy chillies 150-1200mm long.
- Small, compact bush.
- Fruit colouring is bright yellow turning red.
- It is ideal for stuffing, general cooking and fresh use.
Habanero Chillies
- Very hot, flavour.
- Lantern shaped chilli.
- Habanero range includes Orange, Red, Yellow and Brown varieties.
- Extremely hot spicy taste in cuisine.
Capsicum
Sweet Long Yellow Capsicum
- Common name: sweet banana pepper.
- Fruit colour: Green turning bright yellow turning red when fully ripe.
- Abundant fruit and is excellent for salads, salsa, sandwiches and stuffing.
Amigo Gold Capsicum
- Attractive, sweet blocky capsicum.
- Fruit colour: Green ripening to golden yellow.
- Perfect for salads, salsa, sandwiches and stuffing. Use fresh or cooked.
Amigo Purple Capsicum

Chillies can also be used for the fighting of pests. Here is a recipe for an organic chilli spray for the garden.
Extremely effective spray against ants, aphids and other soft-bodied insects.
Chilli Pest Spray
Ingredients
40-50 small hot chillies
2 litres of water
5 grams of pure soap flakes dissolved in hot water or a few drops of liquid soap.
Instructions
Puree chillies and one litre of water in blender. Strain mixture through a fine sieve and add the soap and the other litre of water.
Spray this mixture undiluted on to the plants.
Warning
Store out of children's reach. Wear gloves when spraying. Do not allow spray to come in contact with your skin or eyes.
